Mystery on the Mainline

Mystery on the Mainline

Guests turned up in style for the PA鈥檚 Murder Mystery Evening in the Humphreys Theatre on Friday 6 March. It was clear from the start that the optional 1920s dress code had been fully embraced with very many fabulous outfits on show from parents and staff attending. The setting was an unsolved murder taking place on a railway and the theatre was decorated with a 1920s feathers and flappers party and steam trains鈥 theme.

The evening commenced with drinks and the opportunity to mingle with the cast of the murder mystery before the events of the evening unfolded.聽A re-enactment of 鈥淭he Mainline to Murder鈥 was performed which set the scene of the murder and introduced the key characters. Each table was then provided with a series of clues throughout the evening and had to set their sleuthing skills to work, interviewing the surviving suspects, considering the clues and putting together their case.

After a busy evening full of detective work, drinks, snacks, general chatter and socialising, each team named their suspect with the grounds for their suspicions. It was a closely fought competition but there was a prize for the winner and for the best dressed table (a difficult choice to make for our visiting cast, The Company Upfront). The prize for the evening鈥檚 stand-out costume went to a worthy winner in a full 鈥淪herlock Holmes鈥 detective costume.聽After playing detectives and enjoying photo opportunities in front of the steam train and railway carriage, it was time to wind the clock forward 100 years and journey back full steam ahead to the weekend.
