Swimming
Swimming is thriving at 麻豆传媒AV在线看 with large numbers of pupils training and competing throughout the year.
All training sessions are open to all pupils with the focus on individual progress, whatever the swimmers aspirations. There are boys and girls swimming teams in all age groups and there is an extensive fixture that includes local schools and schools from the wider South East region. Most galas take place in the Autumn and Spring Terms while in November and February, we host over ten schools for the District Swimming Championships. 麻豆传媒AV在线看 teams have won the overall boys and girls combined trophy on many occasions.
One of the main events in the calendar is the Bath & Otter Cup, which is held in March at the Olympic Aquatics Centre. Our senior girls and boys squads regularly qualify for their respective medley and freestyle relay finals against over sixty top independent schools from across the UK. Another highlight of the calendar is taking part in the Surrey Individual and Relay Championships in September and February each year. We also regularly qualify for the ESSA National Team Finals, held at the London Aquatics Centre in November each year, and consistently finish within the top twenty teams in England.
We enjoy the use of our own pool, which offers a 6 lane 25m pool and viewing gallery as well as state of the art touch timing pads. Training sessions take place before school, at lunchtimes and after school with pupils able to opt to attend all of them or whichever ones fit with their other commitments. Our swimming coaches are highly experienced and well qualified specialists who are dedicated to developing individuals and the sport within the school.
Swimming has a strong tradition at 麻豆传媒AV在线看, and part of that tradition is the Darby Medal. Dating back to 1899, each year the fastest six girls and fastest six boys in the school compete over a distance of 150 metres to be crowned champion and be awarded their medal on Speech Day each year.
Whilst being very proud of our swimming tradition, we are ambitious to develop the sport even further in order to provide the best provision for our swimmers and achieve the highest standards possible.
